Letter to Parents – Dining Chairs

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to you regarding recent press reports about the school removing chairs from the Year 10 and Year 11 Balcony area.  We have removed the chairs in that area as it is a corridor and we are trying to improve pupil circulation at changeover time.  We are currently pricing up replacing the old chairs with fixed benching that cannot be moved.  Ironically staff from the company were measuring up on Friday last week and have offered three options.

Reports that we have removed them and that students have nowhere to sit or revise are simply not true.  Any Year 10 or Year 11 child is free to sit and have lunch downstairs where there are hundreds of chairs or at the outside seating areas.  These areas are never full at lunch time as we moved to a new format for the day with three sittings for just this reason.  Secondly we would always encourage students to have a break at lunch-time and not revise but if they felt the need to then there is always our Library available to them.

Once we have agreed furniture design and price we will be having new furniture fitted in the Balcony area as quickly as possible.  I regret if this has caused any inconvenience, however as a school we regularly review pupil movement around school and if we think something is a concern then we will take action to reduce risk.

Yours sincerely

Mr G.W. Lumsdon

Head Teacher
