Welcome to Seaham High School
I feel privileged to have been elected to the Chair of Governors at Seaham High School and to coordinate the work of colleagues who support the school.
I have been involved in secondary education for the last fifty years in various roles – Headteacher, leadership training, government projects and consultancy. In these positions I have worked in many schools, not only in the north east but in other parts of the UK. Those experiences enable me to recognise the truly excellent work done by Seaham staff and students. There is a vitality, expertise and commitment which motivates pupils to achieve the best possible outcomes. Examination results, particularly in the last five years have been excellent. The corporate life of the school is endlessly creative gaining national recognition for its many ventures.
The next years will be difficult for all concerned in education. The National Audit Office predict that schools will face a £3billion shortfall by 2019-2020 . In real terms a cut of 8%. The Institute for Fiscal Studies expect falling budgets for the first time in two decades and that an extra £3.7 billion will be needed for schools to maintain current levels of spending. Secondary school numbers will rise by a fifth in the next decade – an extra half a million pupils.
These are challenging times. Parents can be assured that governors of Seaham High School will continue to give vigorous support to the Headteacher and his staff in order to provide education of the highest quality for all.
Chair of Governors.
