I am honoured to have been elected as Chair of Governors for Seaham High School a school where I was formally a pupil and one which my child now attends. Whilst it is sad to see Dave Shield and David Wilkinson leave, I am looking forward to getting stuck in and working with the new Headteacher, who I believe is a fantastic appointment and will maintain the schools drive forward.
Currently I am a Station Manager in County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, where I am responsible for the training and development of all operational staff both new and experienced within the county. I have been the Chair of various partnership organisations such as Area Action Partnerships (AAP’s) and internal committees within the service itself, which although aren’t schools, have given me a solid grounding in the role of a Chair.
Previously I have been a solider in the British army serving in Iraq, Northern Ireland, Canada, Kenya and Cyprus to name but a few and also worked at Nissan UK for a few years.
There is no doubt that the next few years will be challenging in terms of financial constraints and changes to the leadership of the school, however the whole school governor team are prepared for those challenges and are determined to help the Headteacher and school staff, as well as students achieve the highest possible standards.
