Transition from Y6

Welcome to Seaham High School!

We understand these are challenging times and you may have lots of questions about starting Seaham High School. We will keep updating you with details about the transition process when we have more clarity about the end of the Covid 19 lockdown. Until that time, we have tried to give you some key information below.

School Tour

We have launched our virtual school tour, during Covid-19 closure, to support our Year 6 families in the weeks ahead as we continue our attention towards Transition. Whilst it is now likely that July’s Transition Days will not happen in the conventional way, we are still determined to use all means we can to reduce any anxieties about moving up to secondary school. We will continue to share Transition information via social media, emails and on this, our regularly updated Transition webpage.

We hope you enjoy the tour and find it helpful. It has been optimised for viewing on mobile devices, and is also available on YouTube channel.

Meet the Team

Mr Lumsdon – Headteacher

Can I begin by saying that I am looking forward to meeting you all in September.  Hopefully things will have improved and we can begin to re-open for all Year Groups.  I know that you will all have been very disappointed and upset by the sudden end to your time at Primary, and after all your  hard work not being able to sit your SATS.  Thank you to everyone who has sent me a letter about themselves – I am working my way through them to reply. I am very proud to work at Seaham High School, as I think it is a great school with fantastic students and a very hard-working staff. I believe in three key things- kindness to self and others, integrity which is about doing the right thing and pride.  Pride in yourself and everything you do, your school, community and country.

Mr Neale – Year Leader

Hello to our future year 7.  My name is Mr Neale and I will be your Year Achievement Leader when you come to us in September.  My aim is to make pupils feel happy, secure and confident in their transition to secondary life.  I wish for all pupils to thrive, to grow personally and academically throughout their time at Seaham High School, utilising the six Rs that underpin our fantastic school.

Feel free to stop me and ask any questions if you see me around the school, and I will be looking to set up an after school drop in session for parents from September.  I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all over the coming weeks and months.  I can be contacted at s.neale@seahamhighschool.com.

Mr Bolton – Year Manager

Hello, future year 7 students.  I am Mr Bolton and I am going to be your Year Manager when you start at Seaham High School in September.   My role is to support you with your pastoral needs, these include behaviour and attendance with the focus on your wellbeing in school.

I am part of a team called ‘Student Guidance’.  We are here to support you throughout your school life, making sure there is always somebody there to listen. Together with Mr Neale, we endeavour to make your school life as fun as possible whilst ensuring that you make progress and achieve academically. With your support we want to create an environment of kindness and positive friendships across the year group.

Mrs Whitehead – Assistant Head – Welfare – Year 7 Senior Link

Hello new Year 7 students. I will also be around to help you when you join us in September. My roles include helping those of you who might struggle with your learning, and being there for those of you who might need a little more support during your time with us. I will be working very closely with Mr Neale and Mr Bolton to make sure you have a wonderful experience over the next five years.

Some of you might be worrying about starting in September, especially now we can’t do some of the lovely things we had planned for you in June and July. I can assure you that we will still do everything we can to make your transition to Secondary school as exciting as possible. Mr Neale has lots of plans to do this in different ways that you will see over the next few weeks. If there is anything you or your parents would like to know about support in school, please feel free to contact me at l.whitehead@seahamhighschool.com
